The Cambrian Mountains Gravel Epic, scheduled for June 14, 2025, offers an unforgettable gravel riding experience through the heart of mid-Wales. The event features two route options: a challenging 119 km long route with 2,400 meters of elevation and a shorter but still demanding 50 km medium route with 1,000 meters of climbing. Starting in Llanidloes, riders will traverse Hafren Forest, Elan Valley, and the iconic Glyndwr’s Way, enjoying stunning views and remote, rugged landscapes. This ride is known for its smooth forest gravel roads, scenic back roads, and punchy climbs, making it a true highlight of the UK gravel calendar. The long route takes riders through Hafren Forest’s smooth gravel trails before tackling several challenging climbs, including a 5 km ascent on mixed terrain. Riders will pass the picturesque Elan Valley reservoirs and traverse bridleways, rough farm tracks, and remote roads before returning via Glyndwr’s Way. The medium route, though shorter, follows the same initial 30 km through Hafren Forest before heading back to Llanidloes, providing a taste of the region’s best gravel without the extreme demands of the full route. Riders can expect fully signed routes, feed stations every 30 to 40 km with tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches, and crisps, as well as mechanical support both at the ride village and along the course. Support vans are available for major mechanical issues, and all participants will receive accurate GPX files before the event. Post-ride, participants can enjoy a celebratory beer and food at the finish line. Nearby accommodation options include small hotels and campsites in Llanidloes and Newtown, with Caersws train station just 8 miles away for convenient access.
