The Chilterns Gravel Epic, taking place on July 5, 2025, offers an exciting off-road challenge close to London yet far from the crowds. Riders can choose between the 98 km long route with 1,300 meters of climbing or the 74 km medium route with 1,000 meters of elevation. Both routes start in Kingston Blount, featuring significant sections on the Ridgeway, England’s oldest road, and lesser-known gravel trails through the Chiltern Hills. With a mix of gravel, tarmac climbs, and backroads, this event provides a rewarding summer adventure with stunning countryside views and rolling terrain. The long route begins with nearly 20 km on the Ridgeway, followed by a sequence of seven climbs spread across tarmac and gravel. Riders will experience fast-paced sections, scenic hills, and hidden trails before finishing with a rapid 25 km descent back to Kingston Blount. The medium route follows the same Ridgeway start but cuts out 30 km of the steepest hills, making it a great alternative for those seeking a slightly less demanding challenge. Riders will still face five climbs, ensuring a balanced mix of effort and enjoyment. Participants will benefit from fully signed routes, GPX files, and feed stations every 30-40 km, offering tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches, and crisps. Mechanical support will be available at the rider village and key stops, with support vans ready for major mechanical issues. At the finish line, riders can celebrate with a beer and food truck, making for a perfect post-ride atmosphere. Accommodation options include pubs and hotels in nearby villages or larger hotels in High Wycombe. The event is easily accessible, with Princess Risborough station just 5 miles away, making this a great gravel escape near the capital.
