The Forest of Dean Gravel X, taking place on June 21, 2025, offers a classic summer gravel ride through the ancient woodlands of the Forest of Dean, located on the Welsh border. Riders can choose between an 81 km long route with 1,430 meters of elevation and a 51 km medium route with 990 meters of climbing. Both routes feature over 85% off-road sections on smooth, flowing forest trails, making this event ideal for newer gravel riders and those looking for an enjoyable yet challenging day out in nature. The ride also includes stunning sections along the River Wye and through the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The long route begins in Broadwell, with the first 30 km covering smooth gravel trails within the forest. Riders will then head northwest towards the River Wye and the Welsh border, encountering three key climbs, including the challenging Kymin Hill—a 1.3 km ascent with an average gradient of 9.4%. After a recovery stretch along the river, riders face one final climb of 2 km at 6% before a fast descent back into the forest. The medium route follows the same initial 30 km, includes the first climb of the long route, and finishes with a swift return to the forest, making it perfect for those seeking a shorter yet fulfilling ride. Participants can expect a fully supported experience with well-signed routes, GPX files provided ahead of time, and feed stations approximately every 30 to 40 km. Food options include tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches, and crisps. Mechanics will be available at the rider village and selected feed stops, with support vans on standby for major mechanical issues. At the finish line, riders will be welcomed with a celebratory beer and food truck. The Forest of Dean’s rolling terrain, ancient woodlands, and riverside paths ensure an unforgettable gravel adventure.
