The King Alfred’s Way, running from August 23-25, 2025, is a three-day, 350 km multi-stage gravel adventure covering some of the most iconic off-road routes in Southern England. Riders will follow historic trails, including the South Downs Way, Salisbury Plain, and the Ridgeway, passing through stunning landscapes and ancient landmarks from Farnborough to Winchester, Swindon, and back. With guided group rides, luggage transfers, feed stations, and social post-ride evenings, this is the ultimate supported gravel bikepacking challenge. Choose between self-supported riding or opt for accommodation and meal packages for a stress-free experience. The three stages vary in difficulty, with Day One (115 km, 1,900 m climbing) being the toughest, taking riders through the Devil’s Punchbowl and South Downs Way. Day Two (123 km, 1,600 m) features fast gravel roads and Wiltshire white tracks, finishing near Swindon after some punchy climbs. Day Three (115 km, 950 m) is the fastest, starting on the Ridgeway (Britain’s oldest road) before a flat and fast run back to Farnborough. With a mix of gravel, rutted paths, sand, and hard-packed trails, this event requires endurance and good bike handling, but is manageable for most riders. Participants will enjoy full route signage, GPX files, and well-stocked feed stations every 30-50 km, offering tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches, and crisps. Mechanical support is available at the rider village and key checkpoints, with support vans on standby for major issues. The event ends with a celebratory beer and pizza at the finish line. Accommodation options include 4-star hotels with luggage transfers, evening meals, and secure bike storage. Whether you’re looking for a personal challenge or a social gravel ride, King Alfred’s Way is an unmissable off-road adventure.
