The Wild Westie, scheduled for May 25, 2025, promises to be one of the most challenging and rewarding gravel rides in the UK. Taking place in the stunning Scottish landscape around the Port of Menteith and Aberfoyle, the event features two routes: a demanding 200 km long route with 3,950 meters of elevation and a more accessible 92 km medium route with 1,400 meters of climbing. Riders will traverse wide gravel trails, singletrack paths, and enjoy ferry crossings over Loch Lomond, all while surrounded by the breathtaking Arrochar Alps. This ride is part of the Monument series and is truly a bucket-list adventure for any gravel enthusiast. Participants can expect world-class gravel trails, including the famous routes through Loch Ard Forest and the remote western side of Loch Lomond. The long route challenges even seasoned riders with constant climbs and descents, while the medium route stays closer to Aberfoyle, offering smoother gravel and rolling terrain. Riders on the long route can opt to cut 45 km from the far side of Loch Lomond if the full route proves too demanding. Both routes are well-supported with feed stations every 30 to 40 km, providing tea, coffee, sandwiches, and other refreshments. To make the most of the weekend, participants can camp at the Cardross Estate on both Saturday and Sunday nights. An optional 48 km coffee ride on Saturday provides a warm-up opportunity, exploring a different area than Sunday’s main event. The rider village offers mechanics, support vans for major issues, and a celebratory beer at the finish line. Nearby attractions include hiking in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, cruises on Loch Lomond, and a visit to Stirling Castle. This combination of epic riding, comprehensive support, and a vibrant event atmosphere ensures an unforgettable Scottish gravel adventure.
