The Wild Goat, scheduled for July 19, 2025, is one of the premier gravel rides of the season, set in the breathtaking Galloway Forest—the UK’s largest forest. Riders can choose from three epic routes: the 186 km long route with 3,150 meters of climbing, the 133 km medium route with 2,300 meters of elevation, or the 93 km short route with 1,400 meters of climbing. Nearly 95% of the course is off-road, taking riders through endless fire roads, remote lochs, and scenic highland valleys, offering one of the longest continuous gravel loops in the UK. With camping available on-site, this event makes for a fantastic weekend escape in South West Scotland. The long route departs from Talnotry Campsite, immediately tackling a steep climb into the forest. Riders then descend along the remote Loch Grannoch before heading south towards Clatteringshaws Loch. The final loop around Loch Dee and Glentrool takes riders through some of the most rugged, untouched terrain in Scotland. The medium route follows the same path for 126 km before cutting back early, while the short route offers a thrilling but manageable 93 km loop, making it suitable for most riders. Expect stunning lake views, wildlife sightings (including wild goats!), and a fast-flowing, hard-packed gravel surface. Participants will enjoy a fully supported event, including signed routes, GPX files, and well-stocked feed stations every 30-40 km with tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches, and crisps. Mechanical support is available both at the rider village and key checkpoints, with support vans on standby for major issues. Riders will be welcomed at the finish line with a celebratory beer and hot food from the on-site food truck. With camping available on Friday and Saturday night, riders can extend their stay to explore hiking trails, mountain biking at Kirroughtree, or simply enjoy the untouched beauty of Galloway Forest.
